Construction Sector Continues to Embrace EPDs

EPDs for the building and construction sector has been running hot in recent months. Since our last newsletter we have published 10 new construction product EPDs as the availability of independently verified environmental data compliant with EN15804 becomes increasingly important in the building industry.

Hanson, a part of the Heidelberg Cement Group, has published four new EPDs for project specific concrete products over the last 3 months. The new EPDs cover products used in the Bunbury Outer Ring Road, the M4 M5 Link Tunnel, the Rozelle interchange and the Hutchinson Builders Mary Street projects. A leader in building and construction materials with an extensive production and logistics network across Australia, Hanson have now published 8 EPDs covering a wide range of building projects.

Downer EDI Limited published an EPD for Reconophalt produced in NSW. Reconophalt is Australia’s first asphalt product containing high-recycled content derived from true waste streams that would otherwise be bound for landfill.

Holcim Australia continue to demonstrate their commitment to embedding sustainability into their organisation, adding their 22nd EPD. Their most recent publication is for the Holcim ViroDecs Special Ready-Mix Concrete produced in Brisbane for Plungie.

We welcomed four new companies to the EPD Australasia family. Gunlake Concrete and Gunlake Quarries, the largest independent suppliers of concrete and quarry products in the Sydney region, published EPDs for quarry materials and ready-mixed concrete. WA Premix, a leading supplier of concrete, aggregates and decorative concrete solutions across the Perth metropolitan area, published an EPD for their ready-mix concrete products. Green Vision Recycling, a producer of recycled aggregate and fill materials based in Onehunga, Auckland, published an EPD for their recycled crushed concrete.

It is rewarding to be a part of the growing depth of environmental data and understanding in the building and construction sector.
