The final EPD is a PDF document containing the information required by the General Programme Instructions and the relevant Product Category Rule. As well as the LCA results, an EPD may include other relevant environmental information of specific value to the organisation.
A voluntary generic template for an EPD is available for. You can download a template for the construction industry here and for all other products here. Commonly an EPD is divided into the following sections:
Cover page (voluntary) including relevant information about the product, the EPD logotype, EPD registration number, date of publication, date of validity and revision number.
Programme-related information including the EPD Australasia logo, the reference PCR document, registration number, date of publication and validity, geographical scope and reference to a relevant website.
Product-related information including unequivocal identification of the product according to the CPC classification system, description of the intended use, a technical description of the product in terms of functional characteristics and the relevant functional or declared unit.
Content declaration covering relevant materials and substances.
Environmental performance-related information including resource use (both renewable and non-renewable), pollutant emissions and the associated potential environmental impacts (e.g. global warming, photochemical oxidant creation, acidification and eutrophication), and waste generation.
Additional information may include environmental information not derived from the LCA-based calculations that are of significance to the product, service or organisation.
Mandatory statements will include any omission of lifecycle states, means of obtaining explanatory materials, a statement indicating that EPDs from different programmes may not be comparable, and a box describing the verification process.
Please allow plenty of time for the designer to prepare the final EPD.
