Technical guidance published on new PCR for construction products

The EPD Australasia Technical Advisory Group has published a technical guidance note on the new Product Category Rules (PCR) for construction products. The standard EN 15804 “Sustainability of construction works. Environmental product declarations. Core rules for the product category of construction products” has been updated to EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 which has triggered this update to the PCR. The new PCR (PCR 2019:14 Construction Products, Version 1.0, 2019-12-20) has some significant changes including changes to environmental impact assessment methods. At this stage it is possible to publish an EPD under the previous existing PCR until the 31 December 2021, however LCA consultants and EPD owners should begin to familiarise themselves with the changes. The new PCR does not affect the validity of already published EPDs however, at the end of an EPDs validity it will need to be updated to the new product category rules.

The International EPD System has also recently published a document which outlines the changes to the PCR which can be found here.

Any queries should be directed to the Secretariat.
