What’s shaping the future of EPDs? Insights from New Delhi

Kelly Taylor, CEO of EPD Australasia, shares her reflections on the EPD International Stakeholder Conference 2026 in New Delhi, where global experts explored emerging technologies, verification quality, growing demand for environmental transparency and evolving regulatory requirements.

Earlier this month, Andrew Moore, our Technical Advisor, and I attended the EPD International Stakeholder Conference in New Delhi, India. This annual event is a key opportunity for EPD Australasia to connect with EPD International staff, approved verifiers, LCA consultants, regional licensees from around the world, and many other contributors to the global EPD ecosystem.

The conference centred on several important themes shaping the future of EPDs:

  1. Digitalisation, automation and AI in EPD workflows – a major highlight for me was seeing the clear growth and maturity in digital tools supporting LCA modelling, EPD creation and data pipelines. Significant developments are emerging that will enable EPDs to scale efficiently and consistently.
  2. Verification quality, methodological rigour and trust – as EPDs expand globally, strengthening verification quality remains essential. There was strong focus on ensuring programme rules reflect best practice and on improving the decision support value of EPDs in procurement, policy and other applications.
  3. Scaling environmental transparency in India and Southeast Asia – these regions represent major global manufacturing hubs, and many producers supply into our markets. Supporting the growth of EPDs here benefits manufacturers, purchasers and programme operators across the entire value chain.
  4. EU regulatory alignment – this is something we’ve been talking about for years but is now maturing and requirements are in place, it’s important EPD Australasia aligns with requirements such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and Digital Product Passports so our exporters can be sure their EPDs are compliant both locally and internationally.

EPD Australasia is the oldest and largest regional licensee of EPD International and a key partner in the global programme. Alongside the conference, we delivered a four hour workshop on How to Read and Use EPDs, which was very well received by participants.

We will continue to support industry with further webinars and training opportunities – so keep an eye out for upcoming announcements.
