EPD Australasia is inviting expressions of interest (EoI) from companies interested in financial support to develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in new product sectors.
The New Sector Development Fund is designed to help businesses in Australia and New Zealand to develop of EPDs in product categories that are not yet represented in the EPD Australasia programme.
Each approved applicant will receive a $3,000 (NZD or AUD as applicable) contribution toward the development of their EPD. The contribution is paid once the EPD has been accepted for publication.
The EPD Australasia joining fee and first year’s annual fee will also be waived. Together, these benefits are worth between $4,795 and $9,900 per company, depending on the applicable programme fees.
The fund is open to companies based in Australia or New Zealand that are considering developing an EPD in a new sector or product category and registering it with EPD Australasia.
Examples of potential new categories include packaging, food and beverage and, for construction products, HVAC equipment.
Each company can submit one funding application, with funding contributions available for a maximum of three companies within any one new sector or product category.
To ensure quality and consistency, applicants must engage an EPD/LCA consultant who has assisted a company to develop at least one EPD published by EPD Australasia within the previous 12 months.
An EPD is considered to be in a new sector when it is developed using a Product Category Rule (PCR) or, for construction products, a complementary Product Category Rule (c-PCR), that:
If you are unsure whether your product falls within a new sector, please contact EPD Australasia to discuss your eligibility.
If a PCR or c-PCR does not yet exist for your product, EPD Australasia’s $3,000 contribution may instead be used towards PCR/c-PCR development. This flexibility ensures that the New Sector Development Fund can also support the foundational work required to enable entirely new sectors to register EPDs with the EPD Australasia programme.
The EPD Australasia joining fee and first year’s annual fee will also be waived.
To be eligible, there must be a clear and achievable plan in place for developing the PCR or c-PCR. The requirement to use an EPD/LCA consultant who has developed at least one EPD published by EPD Australasia within the previous 12 months may be varied where specific expertise is needed for PCR/c-PCR development. Please contact EPD Australia for further information.
Applications must demonstrate:
Applications will be assessed on a first‑come, first‑served basis. Funding contributions are available for a maximum of three companies within any one new sector or product category.
Successful applicants will be notified that they have been pre-approved to receive the $3,000 contribution and fee waivers, subject to the publication of their EPD.
To express your interest, please email admin@epd-australasia.com
If you would like to discuss your product or whether it qualifies as a new sector before submitting an EoI, you can book a meeting with EPD Australasia CEO Kelly Taylor.
