EPD Australasia has reached an important milestone, with EPDs now published for over 200 companies.
What began in 2014 with a small group of pioneering organisations has grown to a diverse range of companies supplying concrete, steel, timber, bamboo products to markets in Australian and New Zealand. The range of businesses choosing to develop EPDs continues to grow, reflecting increasing demand for credible, independently verified information about the environmental impacts of their products.
The milestone EPDs were published for Australian supplier of engineered bamboo products House of Bamboo. Three EPDs provide verified environmental information for their Laminated Bamboo, Strand Woven Bamboo and Structural Glued Bamboo.
This milestone was celebrated recently when EPD Australasia CEO Kelly Taylor visited House of Bamboo’s showroom in Botany, Sydney, to present CEO Jennifer Snyders with a commemorative plaque.
For House of Bamboo, developing EPDs was about making its engineered bamboo products easier to understand and specify, with transparent data that can stand up to scrutiny.
Architects and engineers are asking harder questions about materials, and they should be. Sustainability claims mean nothing without evidence. Working with EPD Australasia lets us put independently verified data behind our engineered bamboo, so specifiers can compare it honestly against timber, steel or any other material on the project.
Jennifer Snyders, CEO, House of Bamboo
Bamboo has traditionally been harder to assess against materials such as timber, with environmental performance often considered within protocols and standards developed around other materials. The EPDs help bridge that gap, providing a consistent way to understand the environmental performance of House of Bamboo’s products and supporting informed decision-making.

The programme’s growth has also accelerated. It took EPD Australasia a decade to reach its first 100 companies; the next 100 joined the programme in just three years. This growth reflects increasing market expectations and procurement requirements, as well as growing recognition of the value of transparent, comparable environmental data in supporting informed product selection and procurement decisions.
As the programme continues to expand, EPD Australasia remains committed to maintaining the rigour and independence that underpin the value of every EPD, while expanding access and supporting businesses of all sizes across Australia and New Zealand to participate.
It’s been great to recognise House of Bamboo as the 200th company in the EPD Australasia Programme. Their EPDs are a good example of the diverse range of businesses and products now represented in the programme, and we’re pleased to mark this milestone with them. I’d also like to thank the staff, directors, expert consultants, verifiers, Technical Group and all the stakeholders who contribute their expertise and commitment to the programme. Reaching this point reflects the contribution of many people across the EPD community.
