As demand for Environmental Product Declarations continues to grow, EPD International has announced a significant milestone: the publication of the first end-to-end digital EPDs developed using fully pre-verified tools with API integration into the International EPD System.

The first EPDs published through this process demonstrate how digital workflows can support the large-scale adoption of EPDs while maintaining high standards of quality and credibility, while also being faster and more cost effective.
This end-to-end digital EPD workflow enables manufacturers with high EPD demand to work with a range of non-exclusive LCA and EPD tool providers to produce high-quality EPDs at volume. The innovation combines two complementary elements:
Fully pre-verified tools are now being used across several product categories within the construction sector, including windows and doors, acoustic wall systems, and ball valves. Manufacturers of cement and wood-based products are also adopting this approach to develop their EPDs.
Swedish window and door manufacturer Elitfönster, which has an extensive product range, was among the first companies to develop EPDs using a pre-verified tool. With hundreds of product variations to manage, the company is using the digital workflow to generate and maintain EPDs more efficiently. Beyond accelerating EPD development, fully pre-verified tools can be adapted to support manufacturers without specialist life cycle assessment (LCA) expertise to explore and retrieve environmental data. This functionality is particularly valuable for:
