EPD Australasia team

The EPD Australasia team recently came together in Auckland while attending the annual summit of Life Cycle Assessment New Zealand (LCANZ).

With team members based across Perth, Sydney, Hamilton, Nelson and Rotorua, the opportunities to meet face-to-face are rare. Gathering to present and advocate for EPDs at the summit provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships, collaborate on the continued growth of the programme and align on priorities across technical delivery, stakeholder engagement and programme development, as well as welcome in person our new Administration Manager, Gill Todd.

Bringing our team together reinforces the collaborative approach that underpins EPD Australasia. By combining expertise across technical, operational, advocacy, marketing and customer support, we are able to provide trusted guidance and support to organisations throughout Australia and New Zealand.

A broader network of expertise

Beyond the Secretariat team is a network of governance, industry and technical expertise that helps ensure the integrity and ongoing development of the programme.

Our Board of Directors brings together leaders from across the sustainability and construction sectors, including Chair Cyril Giraud (Head of Sustainability, Planning & Environment at Holcim Australia & New Zealand) and Philippa (Pip) Stone (Sustainability Manager at BlueScope), who contribute valuable perspectives as EPD owners, alongside sustainability leader Barbara Nebel (CEO and co-owner of thinkstep-anz). The Board reflects a balance of sustainability, manufacturing, industry and consulting expertise.

Supporting the programme’s technical excellence is our Technical Advisory Group (TAG), an independent panel of highly experienced Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and EPD practitioners from across Australia and New Zealand. The TAG provides technical oversight, reviews Product Category Rules (PCRs), develops technical guidance and supports the ongoing integrity and consistency of the Australasian EPD programme. Their expertise plays an essential role in maintaining the robust technical standards and verification processes that underpin every EPD published by EPD Australasia.

The programme would not exist without a network of EPD and LCA consultants across Australia and New Zealand. These experienced professionals provide guidance and expertise to companies to undertake the essential life cycle assessment that underpins every EPD. They also ensure that their client’s EPDs meet their needs and EPD Australasia’s rigorous standards. A list of EPD/LCA consultants with recent experience in developing EPDs published with EPD Australasia is available on our website.

Independent verification and process certification are a critical part of EPD development. The approved verifiers and accredited certification bodies must demonstrate expertise in life cycle assessment (LCA) and critical review of LCA studies. These specialists are drawn from Australia and New Zealand, as well as an international network of experienced LCA practitioners, and are approved based on strict competency requirements defined in the Programme’s General Programme Instructions. Their role ensures that every Australasian EPD consistently meets technical standards and maintains the transparency and credibility on which our programme is built.
