4,000 EPDs: The momentum behind the milestone

Celebrating 4000 EPDs

EPD Australasia has reached another significant milestone with the publication of our 4,000th Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) – just over a year after celebrating our 2,000th. This achievement reflects an extraordinary acceleration in demand for credible, independently verified environmental data across Australia and New Zealand.

The milestone EPD was published for Pioneer North Queensland, a concrete manufacturer whose commitment to sustainability and transparency helped bring the programme to this significant marker. The publication of Pioneer North Queensland’s EPDs is a fitting symbol of how the industry’s appetite for rigorous environmental disclosure has grown – from a handful of pioneering organisations to more than 4,000 verified declarations spanning construction materials, packaging, consumer goods and beyond.

“Publishing our 4,000th EPD is a powerful reflection of how rapidly expectations for credible environmental data are rising across our region. More organisations than ever are recognising the value of high‑quality, independently verified information and choosing to demonstrate their leadership through EPDs. A warm congratulations to Pioneer North Queensland, whose first set of EPDs brought our programme to this significant milestone.”
Kelly Taylor, CEO, EPD Australasia

The pace of growth speaks for itself. It took EPD Australasia a decade to reach our first 2,000 EPDs; the next 2,000 arrived in just over a year. This acceleration has been driven by increasing market expectations, procurement requirements, and a growing recognition that transparent, comparable environmental data is essential for informed decision-making across the built environment and beyond.

“The recognition of the Pioneer North Queensland EPD as EPD Australasia’s 4,000th published EPD marks a significant milestone for our business. This published EPD supports PNQ’s broader sustainability offering, which includes low carbon concrete such as Pioneer‑30 and Pioneer‑40, circular materials, existing third‑party peer‑reviewed sustainability reporting, and certifications including Climate Active and Global GreenTag. Together, these initiatives reinforce our commitment to transparency and help our customers confidently achieve embodied carbon reductions without compromising performance.”

Darren Caddy, General Manager, Pioneer North Queensland

As the programme continues to scale, EPD Australasia remains committed to expanding access, maintaining the rigour that underpins the value of every EPD, and supporting businesses of all sizes to participate. Kelly Taylor added her thanks to the staff, directors, expert consultants, verifiers, technical group and all stakeholders whose expertise and commitment continue to strengthen the programme.

With momentum firmly established, EPD Australasia looks ahead to the next milestone – and the growing role that transparency, data, and collective action will play in shaping a more sustainable built environment.
