EPD Australasia has experienced significant growth in the publication of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) over the past few months, with 431 new EPDs released between early August and early December 2024. This includes 251 EPDs from 13 new members and 180 EPDs from 13 existing members, demonstrating the growing commitment to environmental transparency in Australia and New Zealand.
The majority of these EPDs are for building and construction products, underscoring the sector’s drive for transparency and alignment with sustainability benchmarks. EPDs are increasingly recognised as the most reliable source of embodied carbon data for products, supported by initiatives such as the Green Star Sustainable Building Rating Tools, the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s IS Rating tool, the NABERS Embodied Carbon tool, and the BRANZ/Masterspec partnership in New Zealand.
This surge reflects the growing reliance on EPDs as a key resource for achieving sustainability goals and addressing industry demands for verified environmental performance.
