Barbara is the CEO of thinkstep-anz – an independent sustainability firm with offices in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Her long involvement with EPD Australasia dates back to the Programme’s inception in 2014, where she played a key role in its establishment.

Barbara brings a wealth of expertise to the Board, with her experience as a member of the Technical Committee of the International EPD System and her leadership roles, including at thinkstep-anz and as the founder and current President of the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ). She is also a Certified LCA Practitioner and an associate editor for the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment.

John McArthur, Board Chair of EPD Australasia, expressed his enthusiasm for Barbara’s appointment, “I have known Barbara for many years, from when I was Carbon Reporting Manager at Fletcher Building. Her vision, knowledge, and experience will be an invaluable addition to the governance and future direction of our Programme.”

Barbara shared her excitement about joining the Board, “EPD Australasia has been instrumental in helping businesses in Australia and New Zealand communicate credible environmental data and information about their products. EPDs have driven a lot of reduction in the environmental impact of product manufacturers, as well as building and infrastructure projects. I am eager to contribute to the Programme’s next stage of growth.”

Originally from Germany, Barbara has lived in New Zealand for many years. She jokes that the only thing she truly misses from Germany is the bread – a problem she solved 15 years ago by baking her own. Outside of work, she enjoys mountain biking and describes her ideal holiday accommodation as a tent in the hills.

The EPD Australasia Board comprises six Directors – three from the Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS) and three from the Life Cycle Association of New Zealand (LCANZ). The full list of current Directors is available on the Board of Directors page.
