LCANZ hosted its 2021 Summit “The Power of LCA” at GridAKL in the Wynyard Quarter, Auckland, on Thursday 25th February 2021. EPD Australasia was delighted to support the event by sponsoring the venue and Martin Fryer presented on the use of EPDs. Here are his reflections.
There were several surprises for me when I attended and presented at the 2021 LCANZ summit, thankfully all very pleasant. Firstly, the size of the audience, which I can only assume was a record for the organisation, which created such a buzz throughout. For the speakers this also meant there were some very detailed and thought-provoking questions.
Secondly, the quality of the speakers and the topics covered. All related to carbon and climate change, but all approached and presented through very different lenses. It made for a fascinating and educational event.
Thirdly, the universal applicability of the LCA approach, the value of documenting outcomes in the form of an EPD and the increasing desire for both transparency and effective communication that is driving that.
Without a doubt the key take-away for me was the desire from the LCA profession to continue to improve it’s own approach and support the required transition to a low-carbon future.
