Over 320 attendees to the recent Infrastructure Sustainability Conference in Sydney heard how the data for construction products provided in EN15804 compliant EPDs can now be easily incorporated into their project decision making via Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Rating Tool version 2 of the Materials Calculator.
EPDs must be compliant with EN15804 standard – something all EPDs registered with the Australasian EPD Programmme are.
At a workshop packed with Infrastructure Professionals on the last day of the conference, Nicole Boyd – General Manager, Infrastructure Innovation at ISCA and LCA expert Rob Rouwette explained the updated Materials Calculator.
Within the Materials Calculator V2.0 EPD data for specific products can either be uploaded manually or picked from a drop-down menu.
Australasian EPD Owners Fibercon and Liberty OneSteel, who are also ISCA members already have their specific product’s EPD data preloaded into the Materials Calculator. Holcim Australia – who are currently developing EPDs for a range of their concrete readymix products (more info. here) – will also have their product specific data uploaded to materials Calculator V2.0 when they are completed.
The IS Rating tool is being used to rate and improve the sustainability of a host of transport and infrastructure projects in Australia and New Zealand.
It has recently been used to rate a project in New Zealand for the first time – McDougal’s Alpine Chondola at Cardrona Alpine Resort in Queenstown. More information here.
Integration of EPD data into sustainability rating tools such as these is yet another benefit of Australasian EPD Programme membership.
