BlueScope Steel have recently released an EPD on the COLORBOND® steel standard colour range. Click here to see the EPD.
We spoke to Ross Davies, Sustainability Manager at BlueScope about the process and the future of EPDs.
This is part of our long-term sustainability and product credentials strategy. We started work on our LCA quite a few years ago and in fact won a Worldsteel ‘Steelie” award for our LCA work in 2013.
This COLORBOND® EPD was relatively straightforward given we had already completed our Hot Rolled Products EPD’s. The look and feel was designed specifically to assist people using the EPD. For example, highlighting the additional Green Building Council of Australia -Green Star requirements in an easy to find table. We also tried to include general information we are frequently asked about e.g. recycled content.
We see the increasing call for EPD’s as an integral part of the development of LCA for buildings and infrastructure. EPD’s will provide easily accessible, verified and credible inputs into materials rating tools, carbon tools and as requirements in procurement processes.
