NABERS Embodied Carbon Tool and Australasian EPDs

An informative webinar exploring the NABERS Embodied Carbon Tool and how Australasian EPDs can be used in the rating assessment process.

This webinar was held on: May 13, 2025

In this webinar, experts from NABERS and thinkstep-anz explain the NABERS Embodied Carbon tool and the suitability of Australasian EPDS to help reduce embodied carbon impacts of Australian buildings.

The NABERS Embodied Carbon tool has been described as a game-changer for Australia’s built environment. NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) rates a building’s environmental performance across energy, water, waste and indoor environment.

The introduction of the Embodied Carbon tool will enable new buildings and partial rebuilds to measure, verify, and compare their upfront embodied carbon emissions with similar buildings – helping the sector move towards Australia’s 2050 net zero target.

Product-specific and third-party verified construction product EPDs, which include process-LCA-based data for upfront carbon emission and storage, form a crucial part of the tool and assessment for a rating.

The webinar covered:

  • Which building stages and materials are included in the tool
  • How material emission factors are benchmarked
  • The role of EPDs in the tool
  • A Q&A session addressing key stakeholder questions
