OmniGrip Hybrid HF
OmniGrip Direct
OmniGrip Direct applies specialist slip and skid-resistant surfaces to reduce the risk and severity of crashes on road, paths and in buildings, reducing injury and death on roads and in workplaces. OmniGrip Direct’s recycled-glass surface treatments provide safe, compliant and durable surface with reduced lifecycle costs.
High friction surface treatments (HFST) reduce the distance required when vehicles brake, and reduce the likelihood of loss-of-control crashes on road bends, descents, inclines and ramps. All road users benefit from the higher skid resistance and texture of HFST’s.
This Environment Product Declaration (EPD) is for the world’s first hybrid HFST, OmniGrip Hybrid HF, comprising 60% post-consumer recycled-glass. OmniGrip Hybrid HF is a thin surfacing, applied to existing surfaces, enabling asset owners to quickly improve safety at high-risk crash locations, with minimal disruption, and retention of the embodied carbon in existing asphalt and concrete road pavements. Research by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) determined the optimum blend of post-consumer recycled-glass to achieve compliance with specifications and comparable performance to calcined-bauxite HFST’s that have traditionally been used. Their research included accelerated wear testing, benchmarked against data collected from existing calcined-bauxite sites on arterial roads. ARRB then prepared this EPD, with modelling of regional and metropolitan case studies. The research program and EPD received grants from Sustainability Victoria, and support from the Victorian Government’s ecologiQ program.
