XLam Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)

This Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provides a detailed account of the environmental footprint of XLam Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).  XLam CLT is a primary monolithic structural building material that allows the construction sector to design and assemble buildings that are more sustainable and of a better quality faster.

XLam manufactures a range of panel thicknesses from plantation radiata pine, either fully treated or untreated, to both structural and visual grades.  As a monolithic structural building material XLam CLT is used extensively in both residential and commercial construction for floors, walls, roofs, stairs and landings, lift cores and shear walls.

As a full mass timber structure, XLam CLT is ideally suited to honeycomb structures such as student accommodation, hotels, apartments, age care facilities and office buildings.  In addition, it is ideally suited to ‘kit of parts’ Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA) build typologies such as Social Housing and Education Facilities.

The June 2023 EPD update follows XLam’s decision in January 2022 to use 100% renewable energy to manufacture products in its Wodonga facility in Victoria, Australia. Renewable energy is provided by GreenPower Australia. By taking this action XLam reduced its carbon footprint (Global Warming Potential (fossil)) of production by 45% from 447 kg CO2e to 248 kg CO2e per 1 m3 of the product.
