Great news for food and beverage manufacturers around the world with EPD International’s release of a new PCR for food and beverages. This main PCR enables EPDs to be developed using a declared unit, ensuring consistency and comparability across food and beverage types.
To accommodate the diversity of products, complementary PCRs (c-PCRs) will be developed to provide more detailed and functional requirements for specific foods and beverages. The development process for c-PCRs for Fruit and Nuts and Bakery products has already commenced.
This structure of a sector-wide main PCR and c-PCRs for specific product groups will enhance clarity, flexibility, and methodological robustness in the communication of the environmental impacts of food and beverage products. As part of this development, some of the 27 existing EPD International PCRs for specific food and beverage products will be gradually updated and aligned under the new framework as c-PCRs.
The main PCR, and c-PCRs as they are developed, reviewed and updated, are all available on EPD International’s website.
Note: Use of all PCRs is subject to the General Terms of Use published on EPD International AB’s website at https://www.environdec.com/contact/General-terms-of-use/. If you have not registered and accepted EPD International AB’s General Terms of Use, you are not authorised to exploit this work in any manner.
