Status of EPD International’s Construction Products PCR 2.0.0

This notice is to update Australasian EPD owners on the status of the new version of the key Construction Products PCR 2.0.0 (PCR 2.0.0).

The sunset date for the current Construction Products PCR version 1.3.4 (PCR 1.3.4) remains 20 June 2025. After this date, PCR 2.0.0 must be followed for all new EPDs.

PCR 2.0.0 is due to be released by EPD International in March/April 2025. The draft was open for consultation between October and November 2024. This is a significant update, and EPD Australasia provided substantial feedback and comments supporting EPD owners in our region.

The final version of PCR 2.0.0 has been delayed as over 400 comments were made on the draft, and key ECO Platform standards were not finalised until the end of December 2024. The ECO Platform standards, which include revised LCA calculation methods, are available here. PCR2.0.0 must also align with the new General Programme Instructions v5.0.1 published in June 2024 and EN15941:2024 Sustainability of construction works. The sunset date of 20 June 2025 for PCR 1.3.4 is fixed to comply with the mandatory requirements set for all ECO Platform Programme Operators. After this date, the following will apply:

Individually Verified EPDs

• These EPDs will need to comply with PCR 2.0.0

Pre-Verified Tools:

• EPDs developed using these tools cannot be published until they are updated and re-verified to meet PCR 2.0.0

Process Certification:

• Organisations will need to update their processes to match PCR 2.0.0 and get re-certified by their Process Certification body.
• For Process Certified organisations using Pre-Verified Tools, both the tools and their processes must be updated and re-verified/re-certified before publishing new EPDs.

We are aware of concerns that some EPD owners have about meeting deadlines for EPD publication and the short transition period. We recommend preparing now for these changes based on GPI v5.0.1, available here and the draft PCR 2.0.0, which can be downloaded here.
