US Government to use EPDs to purchase low-carbon construction materials

The US General Service Administration (GSA) has set limits for low-embodied carbon construction materials concrete, cement, masonry unit, asphalt, steel, and glass. These limits will need to be adhered to in federal government projects.

The Global Warming Potential (GWP) values in verified product-specific EPDs will be accepted as compliance documentation.

The GSA is an independent agency of the US government that helps manage and support federal government agencies. It has been allocated USD2.15 billion to procure low embodied carbon materials for federally funded construction and renovation project.
