Earlier this year Zip Water published an Australasian EPD for their HydroTap drinking water appliance. We spoke to Daniel Cuthbert, Commercial Marketing and Training Manager about the EPD process and how having an EPD has contributed to the success of the HydroTap.

Why did Zip decide to produce an EPD?

It’s no secret that here at Zip Water we are committed to designing products with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind. We constantly strive to take an innovative and forward-thinking approach. We’re proud to have achieved another first for our industry and to be able to communicate the environmental impacts of our HydroTap to customers in such a transparent way. This EPD truly sets a new and significant industry benchmark

How did you find the process?

Whilst the process of gathering data for the lifecycle analysis was extensive and at times difficult, Zip's commitment to this initiative ensured that the necessary resources were available to see the project through to successful completion. With that said we're certainly grateful to have partnered with leading sustainability consulting company, thinkstep who were great to work with and very knowledgeable.

How has the Australasian EPD been used since it was published?

We have been communicating the EPD widely amongst the architectural design communities and major corporate and property development clients throughout our key markets in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.

So far we are aware of a few major projects that are to be green rated in which Zip products have been included. When we have discussed these with the key stakeholders the fact that we had an EPD available for our product was seen as a contributing factor for why the Zip product was chosen.
